Transfer Credit Assessment is a multi-step process, typically following the process below:

• You are admitted to ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø – congratulations!
• Your transcripts are assessed for potential transfer credits. This is the number of credits you will potentially receive (including semesters listed on the transcript that are currently in progress). This potential transfer amount will be included in your Admission Decision Letter.
• Once you accept your offer of admission, we can begin to fully assess your previous studies for credit eligibility.  This may include requesting additional information.
• We will produce a Statement of Transfer Credit that shows the amount of credits you have been granted, any course waivers that have been granted and further instructions if we require additional details.
• Your Statement of Transfer Credit will be made available to you in your  account.
• In some instances, we may require you to provide detailed course outlines to determine course waiver eligibility. An example of an acceptable outline can be found on the Course Outline Example webpage .
• PLEASE NOTE: All assessments are conditional upon receipt of final official transcripts.

Eligibility

• Studies completed at an accredited publicly funded Ontario college, may be eligible for block transfer credits. A minimum of one (1) fully completed college semester with a minimum overall final GPA of 3.0 (on a 4 point scale)/ B/ 70% is required to receive a specific amount of block transfer credits.  The amount of block credits you receive will depend on the previous college program(s) and the semesters you successfully completed.
• Courses that are repeated will only count once towards the accumulation of block transfer credit.

 *A completed 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited Ontario college is eligible for 60 credits if the minimum GPA is met

• Minimum requirements for transfer credit eligibility may differ from minimum requirements for admission to a program. Learn more by visiting the Admission Requirements page.
• Computer Science, Computer Security, Information Technology, Kinesiology, and courses within Commerce programs (ADMS) must have been taken within the last 5 years to be considered for course waivers or as a pre-requisite for a degree course.
• The maximum credit that can be granted towards a 4 - year honours degree is 90 credits (60 credits if admitted to a 3 - year degree). 
• Continuing Education programs are generally not eligible for transfer credits. Professional development programs/courses and studies completed at private career colleges are not eligible for transfer credit consideration.

For students who are transferring to an engineering program at York, the following courses are not eligible for transfer credits:

• Courses with the CIVL, ENG and MECH rubrics
• courses with the EECS and ESSE rubrics that are required for any of the engineering programs
• The MATH 2930 course.

Courses with MATH, CHEM and PHYS rubrics, as well as foundational science courses and complementary studies courses are eligible for up to 30 credits transfer credits.

General Admissions Requirements

• • Completion of a diploma program or at least two full semesters at an accredited college.
  • Or one year of full-time academic studies at an accredited college.
• Minimum overall average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale (B, 70% or equivalent).
  • Please note: All attempted college courses will be included in the calculation of your cumulative grade point average.
  • Repeated courses will count once towards your transfer credits.

Please note: Estimated wait times for transfer assessment completion may vary based on the time of year. The earlier you accept your offer, the earlier you will receive your transfer credit statement.
